Task Force kickoff presentation

Special Thanks To Our Hosts today:

Thank you for all in attendance.

Today in History: July 30, 2015

Ethereum was conceived in 2013 by programmer Vitalik Buterin.Other founders include Gavin Wood, Charles Hoskinson, Anthony Di Iorio, and Joseph Lubin. In 2014, development work began and was crowdfunded, and the network went live on 30 July 2015.

And in celebration of Ethereum’s Birthday, you are being gifted a POAP – A proof of attendance protocol on the Ethereum Protocol – ERC-721 tokens

Let’s not forget, Bitcoin!

On 18 August 2008, the domain name bitcoin.org was registered.

Later that year, on October 31, 2008, a link to a paper authored by Satoshi Nakamoto titled Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System was posted to a cryptography mailing list. This paper detailed methods of using a peer-to-peer network to generate what was described as “a system for electronic transactions without relying on trust”.

On January 3, 2009, the bitcoin network came into existence with Satoshi Nakamoto mining the genesis block of bitcoin (block number 0), which had a reward of 50 bitcoins. Embedded in the genesis block was the text:   The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks.

Prior to Bitcoin and to Ethereum

W. Scott Stornetta, along with Stuart Haber, first proposed the concept of a cryptographically secured chain of blocks in 1991. Their work was detailed in a paper titled “How to Time-Stamp a Digital Document”.

This means it’s been 34 years since their initial work was published.
Satoshi Nakamoto then built upon these concepts in 2008 to create the first decentralized blockchain, which was implemented in the cryptocurrency Bitcoin.

W. Scott Stornetta and Stuart Haber provided the theoretical basis. They implemented first practical blockchain implementation in 1995 and then the more widely known application appeared with Bitcoin in 2008, and referenced their work in his paper.
